  1. it’s the most wonderful time of the year

    December 4, 2009 by thelillinator

tonight was a good night. i went to duque spa and salon for their shimmer beauty bar grand opening and the downtown seattle nordstrom private shopping event. food, drink, and other goodies make the world go round, in my opinion.

Duque_Salonso for those who don’t know, duque just opened shimmer beauty bar, a space dedicated to making your face pretty. they cover make up, facial waxing, and lash extensions. duque, just around the corner on ballard avenue, provides hair and other spa services as well as an assortment of jewelry, cute undies, and a few clothing items. i haven’t had my hair done there, although my swag bag did include a coupon for a discount on hair services. what i have done with the duque family is discover my new home for lash extensions. heather is their make up artist/last extension maven and i love her. her fill prices are reasonable, she’s available until 6pm on weekdays that the salon is open, and she has a great attention to detail (*so* important for lash extensions). it doesn’t hurt that she’s cute and fun to talk to; makes you want to really be friends with her. they were offering a few free services tonight for their opening, but heather had a line several people deep and i didn’t want to wait nor to be rushed through any sort of hair removal process (ouch!) so i took off relatively quickly.

cullen crest vneckthe most anticipated part of the evening was the nordstrom private shopping event. i look forward to this all year long. there’s champangne, food, 10x as many points on purchases with your nordstrom card…now the first private shopping event i went to included a few other people and consuming so much champagne that the only other thing i remember about that night is falling over and bruising my bum. since those days of my youth, i’ve continued to anticipate each of these annual events though i haven’t had as much “fun”. tonight i didn’t even buy anything for myself beyond exchanging my new moon t-shirt for a bigger and better left unsaid size. i guess considering how much online shopping i’ve been doing for myself over the last few days that’s good news, but i still felt somewhat deprived. i started trolling the cosmetics department looking for someone to woo my into buying a pretty new thing. alas, The Boyfriend dragged me out before i did any damage. see? i really can’t not shop.

  2. birthday loot

    November 28, 2009 by thelillinator

my birthday was on wednesday. i was informed that i’ve now outlived kurt cobain. i guess since i didn’t shoot myself before i turned 28, i earned a few things. some of the highlights include:

the marc by marc jacobs petal to the metal sasha bag courtesy of The Boyfriend (love it. using it now. it is awesome.)

    accoutrements pirate bandages

skull and crossbone bandages from a coworker friend because apparently i haven’t fooled anyone into thinking i don’t have at thing for them. then again, when i first opened these up and finished squealing, i immediately said that i wanted to hurt myself so i could use the bandage. it never occurred to me that i could just put the bandage on without an injury. hm, i wonder what that says about me?

    edward cullen action figure

an edward cullen action figure (which The Boyfriend has decreed cannot enter the house. edward will come keep me company at work instead) courtesy of my manager (who i learned is a mere 3 months older than me. i find this somewhat shocking). she is newly exposed to the twilight phenomenon. beyond my incessant rambling about the books, the movies, and robert pattinson, i got her to watch twilight on dvd in preparation for new moon in the theater. maybe she’s just humoring me, but i’ll take it. the more the merrier on the dark side, i say.

  3. my shopping’s on broadway

    October 3, 2009 by thelillinator

urban outfitters cigarette casei took my first pole dancing class today! i like the pace of the class; it’s slow enough that i learned to do my first spin but not so slow i was bored. one of my fellow pole dancers was nice enough (i think) to say that i looked like a natural doing the spin. between seeing fame last night and the pole dancing class this morning, i really want to get back into dance. up until college i took several different types of dance classes for most of my life. i wish i hadn’t gotten out of the habit. it’ll probably be hard during q4, but i hope to make time to take some classes.

urban outfitters wrapped snake earringsanyways, after pole dancing, i had a nice brunch at dilettante’s (beef goulash crepe=so good!) and then did a lil shopping while cruising broadway. my martin + osa dress was ready for pick up at the ups store (i still don’t understand why i picked up my fedex package at the ups store rather than fedex kinko’s), so i went there first then dipped into urban outfitters after looking at all the halloween costumes in various store windows and discovering a cheap generically named nail place on broadway to replace my cheap generically named nail place i used to go to when i still live in queen anne.

i wasn’t looking for anything in particular at urban and yet somehow found a pair of really cool snake “hoop” earrings and what i think is supposed to be a cigarette holder, but i am going to repurpose as a business card case. i especially like that you can store cards (or cigarettes) on both sides. on one side i’m going to keep my own business cards and on the other, i’m going to store cards i get. win!

true blood merlottes bar tshirtafter urban, i went to qfc, which is wholly uninteresting, so i’m going to skip to the stop at hot topic. hot topic also has new moon merchandise available so i had to check it all out. too bad it was all basically taking the movie posters and printing them on tshirts, lunchboxes, etc. lame! the only thing that wasn’t exactly a wearable movie poster was a replica of the dress that bella wears on her birthday at the beginning of the movie done in cheap taffeta. boo hiss. however, they also had some true blood merchandise, which was much better. there were a couple of true blood tshirts but more importantly, there were fangtasia and merlotte’s tshirts! specifically, these are the tshirts that can be seen on the show and are described in the books. i am now ready to fill the latest waitress opening at merlotte’s. you know, for when i move to louisiana and stumble into a vampires-are-real storyline.

  4. new moon for nordstrom

    October 2, 2009 by thelillinator

new moon accessories collageit’s all pre-orderable now! sadly, there actually are edward and jacob cut outs available with “keepsake pouches”. wtf kind of keepsake pouch fits a life size cardboard cut out? i wonder how that delivers? i wonder if they’ll be sold in stores? yikes.

so basically in addition to the luna and volturi twilight makeup, there’s now accessories and apparel. i expected to be disappointed by both. i am still disappointed in the cheesetastic accessories. there are your standard initals that abound across the collection, as well as charm bracelets, howling moon earrings, and cullen crest paraphernalia. points for producing quileute and other native american themed goods, but as the project runway judges harp, the collection loses on execution. overall, i’d say i’m just whelmed.

the apparel on the other hand has some bright spots! clearly i like to shop, as does alice in the twilight saga, but i never stopped to consider perhaps how much out tastes may similarly run . the two pieces online (i’m told the selection in the look book in stores is much broader) that i gravitated towards are both alice inspired. one is a plaid tunic dress that looks to be more tunic than dress and a tshirt with a letter that i don’t remember being written in the book scrawled across the front. if i get to leave the day job at a decent hour tomorrow i’m going to try to stop by the downtown bp to check out this look book for myself (and mayhaps indulge in a bit of preordering ;)).

  5. harumph!

heritage1981 versatile faux leather jacketwell, pay day came. i forgot that with money comes responsibility to pay the bills. boo hiss. since i am going to be fiscally conservative for at least the next week, i had to do my nightly browsing for stuff i’m not nearly tempted as much to buy, namely guy’s stuff.

i often forget that forever 21 not only has several shades of greige plaid sherling car coatdifferent lines, heritage1981 and twelve by twelve, but their heritage1981 line includes men’s apparel. i thought the overall selection was somewhat hit and miss, but it’s nice to have an alternative to h&m. one piece i really did dig was this faux leather jacket with a built in hoodie so that extra bulkiness of actually doubling up a full hoodie and a leather jacket is eliminated. i also saw a shades of greige red plaid car coat that looks nice and cozy for the cooler weather we’ve been experiencing this past week. it should be pretty self evident as to why i like this coat if you’ve seen my reaction to the red plaid coat i want from anthropologie.

bowery john varvatos black python hi top chuck taylorsi mentioned john varvatos yesterday but i didn’t really look through the site. today though i saw some chuck taylors that i would totally rock myself if they came in a men’s size 5 and if they weren’t $300. omg, python hi tops! and can you see the detail of the menswear lining? awesome. i’d love to be friends with anyone who buys these. other guy shoes i liked were on by penguin on urban outfitters. yes, they’re a bit summery but penguin tan earnie perforatedsomething about the brick red strap on the neutral shoe really appeals to me.

i think what finally brightened up my outlook on the evening was finding a parody of twilight called nightlight by the harvard lampoon that comes out on november 3rd. the product description on amazon cracked me up. i think i may need to preorder this!

About three things I was absolutely certain. First, Edwart was most likely my soul mate, maybe. Second, there was a vampire part of him–which I assumed was wildly out of his control–that wanted me dead. And third, I unconditionally, irrevocably, impenetrably, heterogeneously, gynecologically, and disreputably wished he had kissed me.

nightlight a parodyAnd thus Belle Goose falls in love with the mysterious and sparkly Edwart Mullen in the Harvard Lampoon’s hilarious send-up of Twilight.

Pale and klutzy, Belle arrives in Switchblade, Oregon looking for adventure, or at least an undead classmate. She soon discovers Edwart, a super-hot computer nerd with zero interest in girls. After witnessing a number of strange events–Edwart leaves his tater tots untouched at lunch! Edwart saves her from a flying snowball!–Belle has a dramatic revelation: Edwart is a vampire. But how can she convince Edwart to bite her and transform her into his eternal bride, especially when he seems to find girls so repulsive?

Complete with romance, danger, insufficient parental guardianship, creepy stalker-like behavior, and a vampire prom, Nightlight is the uproarious tale of a vampire-obsessed girl, looking for love in all the wrong places.

  6. today’s mailbag

    September 16, 2009 by thelillinator

bluefly vampire fashionthis morning i woke and per the regular routine, instead of getting right up, i laid in bed for awhile going through my email while wishing i could go back to sleep. i found two emails particularly amusing.

the first was from bluefly. i usually ignore their mails because they send like 3 a day, but they certainly had an intriguing subject line: VAMP it up! (+ new! hermes). I added those parenthesis because it is so disconnected from the primary feature of the email it felt like a poorly tacked on afterthought. poor hermes, bet they never thought they would play second fiddle to a fictional race/species/humanoid monster.

clearly the fully capped VAMP meant more than just being plain ol’ sexy. bluefly meant sexy with blood!

i’ve always been a fan of vampires, werewolves, witches, etc but this is taking the whole twilight saga/true blood/vampire diaries (all of which i’ve read. the books are all better) explosion of late a bit too far. what’s not too far? the blood orange tru blood drink! i so want to try that! a 24 pack is only $96+shipping.

saks_THEORY_GWP1second was a saks gift with purchase announcement that could have been enticing, except trying to woo me to spend hundreds of dollars on clothes with a pair of tights is a lil underwhelming. beyond that, i am still trying to figure out why the photographer thought that pulling a pair of tights up so high as to ensure both a wedgie and camel toe was attractive.

  7. luna twilight

    September 15, 2009 by thelillinator

luna twilight body glowpre-ordering for the luna twilight cosmetics line has started on nordstrom. orders will be shipped out starting on october 26th.

    edward sparkles

"i hate glowing," thought edward to himself.

i think the creators of the line either have a really good sense of humor or haven’t seen twilight. don’t get me wrong. i obsessed over love the books and think robert pattinson is pretty damn good looking, but there were some really cheesy components to that movie; the makeup, unfortunately being one of the big ones. thus i hope luna twilight didn’t manufacture a lot of the body glow or the “first light” face glow because if they did…wow, someone showed some really poor judgment there.  even with all of fan(g)girldom’s combined love for edward, no one in their right mind (and yes, i’m sure there’s a fair share of them that are not) wants to look like edward in the sun.

  10. twilight+jewelry=win!

this is probably the closest any girl will actually get to having edward's mouth at her neck

this is probably the closest any girl will actually get to having edward's mouth at her neck

i think i initially saw this on an twilight saga feature but after checking out the rest of the site, i’m infatuated with jules smith jewelry. i am much like the entire tween market where i want to snap up as much merchandise about things i like as i can, and thanks to jules, this isn’t some cheesy team edward or team jacob shirt (not that i’m above wearing a team edward shirt with pride…but probably only to bed). it’s a pretty reasonable price point to0, so i’m going to get mine (in gunmetal) before the new moon premiere and wear it to the midnight showing with pride. not only does it easily identify whose team i’m on, it saves me from making a puffy paint shirt (who knew the stuff survived the 80s!) or wearing a shirt with kristen stewart, robert pattinson, or taylor lautner’s face printed on it (how gauche) to proclaim my obsession with twilight to the other fangirls out on November 20th. if you’ve been to any twilight event, you know what i’m talking about on the homemade t’s.

comes in gold and silver, but i think gold is the winner

i also really want this bracelet by jules smith. i’m not much of a bracelet person, but it looks fairly easy to put on by yourself and the chain somehow rides a good line between (a lil) hardcore and plain super cute.
