more maxi
my search continues…(by the way, The Boyfriend apparently hates the term “maxi dress” because it makes him think of menses.)
i think these plus the all saints dress and the la vie en rose electric blue one shouldered thing i got up in canada last weekend (which is part of the reason why i haven’t posted anything in awhile) will give me a well rounded long dress wardrobe. hooray! i’ll have dresses to wear this summer!
summer loving
i am really wishing for warmer weather right now. not sure why i feel so strongly about it. it’s been a rather mild winter here in seattle, as of yet, and i know better than to hope for anything close to spring-like weather until at least memorial day but i am longing for the easy morning routine of slipping on a dress and shoving my feet in some flip flops and just going. none of this layering business to keep warm. nor worrying about the length of my jeans vs the shoes i want to wear vs is the ground going to be wet (longer jeans with heels that won’t slip)! it certainly doesn’t help when every retailer is merchandising their spring styles as wearable now…just add tropical vacation! well, until it’s warm enough to get away with just wearing this adorable little number, i’ll while away my cold winter days in this cardigan. (btw, before you get too excited, the cute looking camo shorts in this picture are actually zebra striped and look much better in this picture than in the detail page picutre. there, it just looks a bit weird.)
i love love
whodathunk j. crew would put out a boho wedding dress? even though i’d never wear it myself, i love it so much more than the standard sleek (read: plain) fare they offer. i’m picturing this in a small wedding during the summer on a new england beach with the tiered skirt blowing in a light breeze. le sigh.
see, i really am all about the ruffles
oh, j. crew, you know me so well and you hook me at the beginning of every season with teeming masses of ruffles. last season it was the frances cami (which select colors are now on sale…so i’m thinking of stocking up. i know, i’m so bad.) this season it’s the ruffled carly dress and merino ethereal ruffle cardigan.
i’m not entirely sure the dress will suit my figure well, but all those ruffles in the utilitarian olive is a sort of dichotomy in fashion that i love. (tangent: one of my favorite outfits a few years ago was a pinstriped blazer with short lil poofy princess sleeves paired with a white on white polka dot tank. stripes and dots. get it?
) i even favor the bolder colors in the cardigan over the sugary sweet look the ruffles in pastels presents. too bad the cardigan is online/catalog only; that means i’ll just have to wait until there’s a free shipping promo code available. i’m sure this soon after the holidays my credit card won’t mind waiting. oy.
if only
i like the idea of this new sweeping ruffles shirt by j. crew, i really do; i am all about the ruffles. but i think the only way anyone can actually wear it is if they walk around hunched over like the model is. it’s like they’re saying scoliosis is the new black.
madewell
i don’t quite understand why madewell doesn’t have e-commerce set up given that they are an off-shoot of j.crew. it’s not like j.crew is in the stone age of online shopping. why can’t they get their shit together so that i can order this sweater without having to *gasp* make a phone call!? how inconvenient to expect me to talk to a person. i may give in though because even though i don’t generally like dolman sleeves, i finally got those frye matilda button boots i wanted, and they need skinny jeans to go under them, which necessitates a big floofy top. given that it’s winter, a big, floofy, warm top is even better. i see my new jimmy choo for h&m big ass bracelet rounding out the look quite nicely. also appealing is that the sweater is under $80. fine, madewell. you’re offering is enticing enough for me to break with my normal shopping habits. happy now?
i don’t wanna grow up
dear j.crew,
this is the second time i’ve seen a completely adorable outfit in the crewcuts section of your catalog. this is not just because they are tiny sized clothing nor do i have any children of my own or any in my life that make me squee over getting them said darling outfit. i want these clothes. for myself. it seems that you’ve done well in keeping your kids and adults size scales very separate so even those who aren’t necessarily drawn by the designs but thought to try to save a few dollars by buying a kids version are denied too.
i am not trying to wear something inappropriate for my age. i do not want to wear cartoon characters on a tshirt or a romper (although there are plenty of rompers available in the general women’s fashion space, which is a rant for another time). i do want to wear a so-cute-it-hurts-me ruffle skirt dress with a belted cardigan over it and striped knee high socks peeking out of my flat brown suede boots. is that so much to ask? can you please make this outfit adult sized? pleeeaaase? with a cherry on top?
is there such thing as too many navy coats?
i have a long, knee length j.crew toggle button navy coat. i have a short, hip length abercrombie navy coat with detachable hood. i just saw a thigh length navy coat with cute lil buckles at anthropologie today that i want. is 3 navy coats too much?

spontaneous jewelry
my iphone was giving me trouble so i made a trip out to uvillage to get it fixed (btw, if you haven’t updated in the last 2 days, DO IT NOW). while waiting i stopped into j.crew to browse. surprise surprise, i found a few things that i liked.
i already have the frances cami but did you know that they now have a frances tuxedo shirt, which has sleeves? just in time for the cold! i did end up passing on it since i didn’t want my closet to become too repetitive. i think because i watched the rachel zoe accessories segment on qvc the other day, i was really drawn to j.crew’s big bold jewelry.
i tried on the jeweled garland bracelet in butterscotch. so cute! if i were a bracelet person i would have snapped it up. if it was a little smaller that would have helped as well. it didn’t fall right off, but i could see someway, somehow, it falling off. instead, i went with the victoria ring (which The Boyfriend will absolutely hate) and crystal thornbush earrings (also in butterscotch, although it wasn’t available online). i was a little torn on the earrings because the black stones will get lost in my dark hair but i thought the rose gold setting would set off the stones enough in my hair.
i’ll probably wear the ring to work so i don’t have to endure The Boyfriend’s ridicule, but i’m hoping to get him to take me to crush for urban eats and i think that would be the perfect setting to debut the earrings. hint hint. wink wink. nudge nudge. hit over head.
