vested interest

open weave + racerback = perfect summertime vest. i totally want to keep this simple with a beater and maybe these lace up denim shorts with a pair of wedges (please forgive the picture of the shorts, it’s a crop from the lookbook which has a light effect but the detail page of the shorts didn’t do them justice).

boudoir bloomers

divine movement, the pole studio i go to, recently introduced a boudoir dance class into its schedule. basically instead of the regular warm up, learning a new move, and dance format it’s a quick warm up and then dance dance dance. they’re even encouraging us to “dress up”. i don’t think anyone’s going to start showing up in full on lingerie but since we wear tiny shorts anyways to climb the pole, i thought this was a pretty compromise.

preppy mcprepperson

i’m still pretty upset that the rugby ralph lauren store closed in uvillage. did we seriously need another tiffany & co between seattle and bellevue? are we a region that actually buys that much fine jewelry? since i can no longer browse the store, i pretty much pounce on their emails whenever they come out, even if it’s totally variations on a theme. whatever, it’s a good theme! this time around i am totally digging the crested fleece blazer because of the rugby detail stripes on the sleeve, and hello, it’s fleece! talk about comfy!

i, personally, would pair it with the taryn lace skirt. while very matchy matchy in color, i think the juxtoposition of textures keeps it from going too prim and proper whilst the navy in both pieces keeps the look polished and clean.

recent acquisitions

i went to uvillage this weekend for more than just running errands. i browsed and it felt so good! anthropologie was a highlight, as always, and it was hard not to indulge.

the whole boyfriend trend is just now starting to gel with me. i still don’t completely approve but what can i say when i not only picked out a boyfriend blazer (which i liked mostly because it looks like one of The Boyfriend’s actual blazers- his is heather grey fleece though) but a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans too? oy!

i probably won’t pair both boyfriend pieces together but i definitely will break up the oversized lines of the blazer with ruffles (of course). witness the ultimately girly top- pink and tulle and layers upon layers of ruffles! on that tip, i also spied a button down with a new twist on ruffles- instead of flouncy collars, cuffs, or embellished bibs- this top has a coat tail hem that’s lined with, you guessed it, ruffles. love!

there were also some cute lounge wear options, which is kind of a misnomer because the chemises, while thin, are totally wearable out and about. and the saturday/sunday french terry cardigan? totally clever with its faux tie fastenings (well, they’re real but there are actually buttons that keep it together).

revolve sale!

really digging these items that just went on sale at revolve. the unintended theme is grey, which is weird, considering how much i want it to be warm and sunny.

love the surprisingly sexy back on this theory sweater.

the bridle strap/suspender details make this special.

the drapey crossover turtleneck on this la made cardigan is a unique twist to an otherwise plain cover up.

nordstrom feb catalog inspires shoe mania

oooh, i got the newest nordstrom catalog today and i’m quite impressed with the selection they have in it! usually there’s only one or two things that really catch my eye but i feel like i dogeared practically every other page this time around! the shoes were especially swoon worthy. from star ling’s bright yellow cage heel that will help transition a winter wardrobe into spring to linea paolo’s update on the zipper detailed ballet flat (i’m especially fond of the rosette. i know there have been versions of this that came out in the past, but the decoration on the vamp was always more spirally than an actual flower. this one is more like a perfect combination of blooming flower and gift bow), i want it all!

the brown strappy sandal is by cole haan and incorporates nike air technology should mean that these are actually comfortable. do you know anyone who has a pretty pair of cole haan/nike air heels? how do they feel? i only want feedback on the comfort level of the fashion items, not some basic black mid heel pump. yea? nay?

last (and possibly least) is the sam edelman daria. i’m not crazy about the decoupage look to the rhinestone and stud detailing but the sliver wedge and ankle cuff kept me from immediately writing this one off. it definitely won’t hurt going into summer with a new pair of (basically) flat sandals to run around town in. guess i’ll just have to wait and see how they look in person.

two pieces in the new free people catalog caught my eye, a faux corset tank and a cute lbd by nicholas k that i think will confuse me when i pull it on but is still pretty. behold.

i LOVE books of shadows!

if you know me at all, you know i’m an escapist. i absolutely love to lose myself in fantasy (from the genre itself to realistic fiction that always ends in happily ever after) when i don’t have to concentrate on work the real world . i am especially fond of magic (there was this whole phase i went through once with minerals and herbs…) so urban decay’s collaboration with disney on an eye palette for the soon to be released alice in wonderland just tickled me with its name, book of shadows. how literally, thematically, and personally spot on is that name?!?! clearly i’m a bit behind because i’ve checked a couple places and it’s already sold out but i’m hopeful that since the movie hasn’t even released yet, and promotion is just starting its upswing, more books of shadows will be available soon.

note to anyone else who’s seriously interested in this make up set, these are not new colors created especially for the movie’s release, they are just renamed colors that fit the alice in wonderland theme quite aptly. but since i don’t own that much urban decay and it’s been at least a year since i’ve introduced new colors into my makeup arsenal i feel like this kit is kind of perfect for me.

never thought i’d say this

but i want something from athleta (owned by gap). i always take an obligatory look through their catalog but it’s all a bit too yoga-meets-surf-meets-hippie for me. their wander dress though made me stop. i’m not crazy about any of the colors and if i did get it, i’d probably go with the safe choice, black, but i love the back detail and the POCKETS. see? yet another instance of spring dresses that makes me anxious for warmer weather.

tangent- doesn’t it strike you as weird that punxatawny phil forecasts 6 more weeks of winter when he sees his shadow? if he sees his shadow, that means it must be sunny where he is. why is the weather prediction the exact opposite of what he’s experiencing? let’s not go near the obvious winter-always-technically-lasts-until-march-and-seeing-a-shadow-cuz-*gasp*-it’s-daytime-makes-the-prediction-always-right.
