the warehouse sale

the warehouse sale logoi went to the warehouse sale, a traveling sample sale, after work today and omg did i need it. tough week and a couple of drinks did not decompress me enough. i met up with a couple of friends at the seattle center exhibition hall where the warehouse sale was being held and started scouring the racks of denim. the last few times i went (they usually come through about once a quarter) i had a hard time finding jeans. i think two times ago i left without anything. the last time was a little bit more of a budget constraint but i only picked up a single pair of jeans. for the first time ever i partook in the buy 4, get the 5th item free today! 3 pairs of jeans (william rast- regular blue bootcut, miss me- embellished fleur de lis on the pockets, and genetic- black/grey straight leg) and 2 splendid shirts later, i am finally a happy camper!

the warehouse sale is here for one more day, so i suggest you go check it out, or look on their page to see if they’re coming to a city near you soon. if you rsvp ahead of time you can get in free and $5 at the door if you don’t rsvp.

more pockets

so yes, i freaked out when i thought that my oh so cute plenty by tracy reese birling coat had no pockets. yes, i especially enjoy dresses with pockets. it seems i have a thing for pockets. so this just tickled my fancy. better than just a knit scarf with pockets that have a loose structure, the julian scarf by wintercheck factory is a flannel scarf with zippered pockets! score! wintercheck factory’s goods seem to be centered around filling a need that the owners have, which is cool, because you know they’re not the only ones with that need. so check it out, they may have something else that you’ll find superuseful too.

maaaaybe i want to grow up a lil bit

i’m not sure if i’ve mentioned it or not here, but i’m taking pole dancing classes. i plan on progressing from the intro level to intermediate, and that, people, is when we start wearing the stripper shoes! well, i picked out my pair. red. glitter. and spats. awesome!!! angi, the owner agrees on the hotness factor, but she advised they won’t be so great for climbing (holy crap, i’m going to climb a pole?!?!). i guess it’s just an opportunity to build a stripper shoe wardrobe as i’ll need to get a pair of “stickier” shoes. i have no idea what that means and i’m kind of scared to find out, but more shoes the better!

thanks seattle picks!

last night i went to an event at mario’s called girlfriend night, put on by seattle picks, a cool lil email magazine that publishes once a week with goings-on (i could do without the preamble at the beginning that has nothing to do with the content), usually shopping related. :) anyways, there was sofia sparkling white wine, cupcake royale mini cupcakes, an area where bocz salon was setup doing hairstyling and i think something they called biotoning? it was electrically stimulating facial muscles. i’m not sure what the end result was suppoed to be…must be to look younger if it’s on the face. anyways, i passed on the bocz stuff, and the sparkling wine oddly enough. you’d think any free alcohol is good alcohol with me. don’t get me wrong, i’m sure it’s a fine wine, but i like my drinks sweet and i’ve bought a 5 or 6 pack of cans (it’s their gimmick, pink cans for the sparkling wine named after sofia coppola…yes, her family does actually own the vineyard) before and had a hard time finishing it because it was so dry. drinking sparkling water out of a champagne flute just is not the same experience.

i’d say the highlight of the evening though was when one of my friends won a bottle of sofia, courtesy of 6th avenue wine seller, and then i won a pair of hudson jeans, courtesy of mario’s! yay, go us! i ended up just getting a basic bootcut (fade was too dramatic on the skinny jeans and the dark grey bootcuts didn’t come in my size) in a dark blue, which i think i already have something similar to, but free jeans=good jeans! even though we got there too late to secure a swag bag, i’d say the night was definitely a success.

i don’t wanna grow up

dear j.crew,

this is the second time i’ve seen a completely adorable outfit in the crewcuts section of your catalog. this is not just because they are tiny sized clothing nor do i have any children of my own or any in my life that make me squee over getting them said darling outfit. i want these clothes. for myself. it seems that you’ve done well in keeping your kids and adults size scales very separate so even those who aren’t necessarily drawn by the designs but thought to try to save a few dollars by buying a kids version are denied too.

i am not trying to wear something inappropriate for my age. i do not want to wear cartoon characters on a tshirt or a romper (although there are plenty of rompers available in the general women’s fashion space, which is a rant for another time). i do want to wear a so-cute-it-hurts-me ruffle skirt dress with a belted cardigan over it and striped knee high socks peeking out of my flat brown suede boots. is that so much to ask? can you please make this outfit adult sized? pleeeaaase? with a cherry on top?

knit this

an ex-boyfriend’s mom taught me how to knit many moons ago and ever since then i try not to buy hats or scarves that i could make. sometimes this is to the detriment of my wardrobe as, yes, i have the means, but i often don’t take the time to actually make anything. this yarnz hat though is something i could not hope to make in a million years. if that lace print were actually a knitted pattern i think i’d want to shoot myself just thinking about making it by hand. (and by the way, it’s cashmere. lace+cashmere= <3)

in the nick of halloween

i haven’t been putting a ton of thought into halloween this year. even though it’s falling on a saturday, which should mean lots of revelry, this is the first halloween with the dogs and in our building so it seems a bit more prudent to stay with the dogs to make sure they don’t go too crazy with more folks wandering around outside. also, i think there’s at least one kid in this building so it may be good to play nice and be available for the trick-or-treater. so with less than a week to go, i’ve finally gotten into the halloween spirit! we now have candy to eat give away and miss pj got a pair of batwings!

reminiscing

when i was in jr high, i was a people to people student ambassador and went on a trip to the uk with about 30 other kids my age from the puget sound area. while in london i picked up an awesome pair of dr. martens (remember, this was in the height of grunge). they were black patent with rainbow stitching. of course, my mom decided to just give them away earlier this year even though i’d been keeping them for nostalgia’s sake at the very least. oddly, she asked me after she gave a whole bunch of my stuff away if i wanted to keep anything. better yet, these docs were the only things i had wanted to keep.

anyways, dr. marten has just opened a pop up store in lil ol’ seattle (in the hopes that we still revel in grunge?) and i think i may stop by to see if they’ve got anything like my docs of yore. if i don’t though, these would be awesome substitutes.
