oh dear lord, please tell me this was all photo shopped. if you look more closely than just the hair, there’s a nose ring, rhinestones by the dog’s eye, and a tattoo!

  3. dress you up in my love

i have that line stuck in my head, but i can’t remember what song it belongs to. ah well.

redmadisonscoat-pone of my buddies sent me a pic of a dog wearing a monkey daze t-shirt with a rhinestone skull and crossbones on it. of course this sent me on a search for it and i found a cool lil shop called madison’s fifth avenue, a luxury gift boutique for pets. ruffus has a pretty good rain jacket, but pj’s is harder to get on and off and overall doesn’t fit as well (if you’re wondering why we got her a raincoat that doesn’t fit, it’s actually a hand me down from ruffus). i’m waiting to find out if this raincoat has the oh-so-important slit for a dog harness to fit through on the back, but if it does, we have a winner! it’ll make a statement that she’s a girl without (i think) saying she’s a princess (since according to most people i know, apparently i’m the princess).

monkey-daze-fluer-pi did find a monkey daze shirt of my own that i think either pup would look good in. i feel like the fleur de lis is on the same wavelength as a skull and crossbones but since ruffus already has a hoodie with a skull and crossbones and their little poop bag pouch has tiny skull and crossbones on it, this fleur de lis hoodie will keep people from thinking i have some sort of fetish. (even though my own purse has tiny skulls and crossbones on it, i have a hoodie that looks like an old granny floral but it has skulls and crossbones all over it, and the tie i got The Boyfriend has skulls and crossbones on it. i have no idea why people might think i have a thing for skulls. or the tv show bones.)

red and black striped dog sweateror maybe if i want both pups to coordinate in full skull and crossbones glory (without being too matchy matchy. i hate it when i see couples or families wearing the exact.same.outfit. i also think it’s ridiculous that The Boyfriend can’t merely color coordinate, he must wear the exact.same.colors on his shirt, shoes, and coat) i should get pj this black and red striped sweater. squee! the doggie cuteness abounds.

  4. all up in this kits

lighted pussy willowcanada, day two was spent exploring the boutique side of vancouver. a friend of a friend owns u- the life accessory store on west 4th in kitsalano (cute part of vancouver; highly recommend checking it out if you’ve never been), which is quite possibly the cutest home and accessory store ever. on the last couple of visits i acquired my skull and crossbones joya candle (so sad there weren’t anymore in the store!) and some pussy willow lights that currently adorn my foyer. on this trip i convinced The Boyfriend to get me a red swarovski crystal flower ring and a gold cameo/greco-roman coin necklace. both are quite cute in a prim and ladylike manner. however, i think due to the influence of the traveling buddy (who favors nine inch nails and steampunk/distopic future styles) what i was really feeling in the store was a set of solid gold skull stud earrings and a huge six cz stone ring. if my credit card were on me rather than waiting for me in burlington, the ring would be sitting on my finger as i type this. alas, it continues to wait for me, an entire country away.

the next stop was ray rickburn, the boy version of aritzia, a popular canadian chain (which has an outpost in bellevue square. the feel of the store remains the same on both sides of the border, but the offerings are pretty varied. aritzia in canada is kind of like a nordstrom tbd or fred segal; there are some house labels but they sit alongside popular contemporary labels. aritzia in the u.s. is primarily house labels, which are quite appealing in their own right, with a brand name laden denim bar to draw in the customer. i have a theory on this difference but i’ll save that for another time). there were some fun handcuff cufflinks that i wished i could turn into earrings but other than that i mostly sat back and watched The Boyfriend browse, chat up the staff, and otherwise stimulate the canadian economy.

vie-de-chateaux dog bedthe last stop before lunch was an insane pet boutique on cambie street called the pet shop boys. i swear, not only did everything have a story, everything had a freaking european fairytale. from the ornate, antique inspired french dog beds to the spanish audrey hepburn rain jacket, everything was posh posh posh there. i love my dogs, but apparently i have a line and the pet shop boys were just on the other side of it.

loved the decor completely. for me.

lots of white, lots of curlicue details on all the displays. think it’s a bit much for a dog shop. pj is too much of a bitch to be wearing fuzzy fuchsia angora sweaters and ruffus, well, let’s just say i fattened him up good in the six months since he came home with us from the pound and i’m afraid that store might give him a complex. i don’t want my dogs to turn into yappers. i don’t want them to prance around on the regular (on occasion to amuse me is permissible). i want them to be the biggest lil dogs that will lick you to death or plot to poop in your shoe when your back is turned if you piss them off. they’re still dogs so they can be spoiled, but they cannot be frou frou.

moving on, we left directly after a fantastic lunch in richmond at top shanghai. i haven’t had soup dumplings in a couple of years and i had nearly forgotten how good they are. yum. and now i want them again.

the last stop on our 48 hour shopathon was the burlington outlet mall because 1) i heard there was a good lululemon outlet and 2) i needed shorts for my pole dancing class (yikes!). it’s workout clothes so nothing too exciting to speak of there, but deals were good so it’s worth the trip if you are a lululemon fan. or, if you’re looking for something more for day to day use, a couple doors down is a christian outlet where salvation is 25% off.

  5. in the nick of halloween

    October 25, 2009 by thelillinator

i haven’t been putting a ton of thought into halloween this year. even though it’s falling on a saturday, which should mean lots of revelry, this is the first halloween with the dogs and in our building so it seems a bit more prudent to stay with the dogs to make sure they don’t go too crazy with more folks wandering around outside. also, i think there’s at least one kid in this building so it may be good to play nice and be available for the trick-or-treater. so with less than a week to go, i’ve finally gotten into the halloween spirit! we now have candy to eat give away and miss pj got a pair of batwings!

  6. fashion's night out part deux

    September 10, 2009 by thelillinator

    update to my prior post-

the pinnacle of office chic. today, this was my hair clip.

i got out of the day job at a decent hour today and i did go to nordstrom to try on the ugg highkoo boots. in the espresso color i liked, no less! and then i took them home with me. ;) i consider that my participation in fashion’s night out. i even participated on east coast time with everyone else in nyc where all the real fun is. i was all wrapped up by 7pm pt/10pm et and home in my who-goes-to-victoria’s-secret-and-only-buys-sweats sweatpants.

for those curious about how the highkoos are in real life, it’s just the insole that is shearling and they run about a half size small. one really cool thing is there are a couple of sets of snaps for the button detail that allow you adjust your boots to be knee high or only calf high. i was even able to fit in my bootleg jean legs into the boots at the store, but i did go home and try them on again with a pair of skinny jeans. it was nice not to have to struggle too hard to get my jeans to stay down as i pulled up a boot. i say this because, while i don’t think i look like i have particularly big calves, i’ve found over the past couple of years that a lot of knee high boots are too small in the calf for me.

pj strikes a shy pose in her new robe

i even involved the dogs in fashion’s night out, albeit from afar since they were at home. i got an email from scraps today to let me know that my special order had come in. ruffus already has a rain jacket, a beater, and a dirty english muscle t, so a couple weeks ago i felt the need to stock up pj’s closet as well. i found some really cute things by gooby (yes, i hate the name) and because they are kind of lame and don’t have an e-commerce set up for retail, i went over to scraps to order pj a wardrobe. if her pink harness weren’t enough to let you know that she’s a girl, she now has a couple of ruffly vest/dresses and a bathrobe, pictured here. i actually think it’s a really cute bathrobe and may have her wear it more often than just when she’s fresh out o’the bath.

susan by emma cook flutter sleeve dressmy other nod to fashion’s night out was tracking down my lost urban outfitters package with my susan by emma cook dress. i think i will wear it tomorrow since it’s supposed to be warm (yay for last dregs of summer!). since i bought this dress in two sizes because i didn’t know which one would fit better, would it be entirely too gauche to return the unwanted size while wearing the one i’ve decided to keep?
